Nowadays there are health kicks and alleged shortcuts everywhere. Through all these claims one thing I've found consistently is the importance of good food. When I look for the college version they say, do the best you can , like eat the right thing 90% of the time. If you live off the meal plan, this can get complicated (unless you're granted access to our newest cafeteria on campus). If our dining continues to improve across campus, this will soon no longer be an issue.
I live off campus so I can only order so many meals while on campus. Also, majority of my day is spent on campus , some days start at 8am and don't end until 8:30pm. Clearly my tigercard can't save me every time, so I cook a lot of meals at home. Typically I take Sundays to become uber domestic - cooking and cleaning as if I had a family to care for. I cook and freeze meals to last me the week or save for another week.
While I'm cooking , I keep my health in mind given that heart problems, high blood pressure and everything I don't want to happen to my body runs in my family bloodline. As I read articles and watch YouTube videos, well to do men and women talk of the farmers market like it's the dollar tree. I wish it was so affordable so I continue to do my best. Luckily I came upon a wonderful place with one of my good friends - The Market at Blooming Colors. They have a great deal, where you can buy a basket of local organic produce for $25 (small) or $45 (large). Buying the abundance and quality of the produce individually is much more expensive and time consuming - two things I do my best to avoid.
When I receive my basket, either by pickup or delivery, I create many stews and sauces with the fresh vegetables and herbs. I share with my roommates and one loves to make a killer guacamole with the avocados and cilantro (and what other delicious ingredients).
Ordering a basket saves me a lot of time at the grocery store because all that's left to buy is meat and grains. Whether you're a carnivore or vegetarian/vegan, this is an awesome deal on a budget. Personally I like to buy a large basket and make it last as long as possible.

So if you've been looking for a way to be organic and eat better all around this place is will be a great stepping stone.
*****If you cannot afford the baskets, there is a website/app called Fooducate that basically tells you the lesser of two evils when deciding what to eat for breakfast lunch dinner or snack.*****
